Improving utility efficiency is an important goal for the District as a strategy to control expenditures. Currently, the District maintains 111 thermostats operating 135 HVAC units. Proprietary software for these units and lack of system control prohibits the district from effectively controlling climate inside our schools.
The District will install open-source system controls giving us the ability to:
Set temperature limits based on seasons
Control temperature during unoccupied time periods
Increase the opportunity for local HVAC professionals to service and maintain systems
The District will also use the same software to monitor other mechanical systems such as our refrigerators and freezers. This will greatly reduce instances of food loss due to mechanical failure, power interruptions and/or improper door closures.
Included in the HVAC scope is replacing the hot water tank at CBMS that services the entire school. We will break this system into multiple tanks for redundency and efficiency.
