2022 Project Proposal
Preparing students adequately to attend a college or university is a major focus, and having appropriate facilities and resources plays a significant role in that focus. Our current science rooms lack this standard of appropriateness in both resources and space. We do not have the required safety features such as a chemical shower, plumbing and electrical needs are insufficient, as well as, appropriate workspace. Further, the chemical storage area does not have ventilation which can cause serious risk when they begin to react to extreme temperatures.
We lack the space to remodel to address these needs, and therefore, propose building a new science “wing” to the High School. This wing will connect the High School to the Ag/Business building and thus provides several new opportunities:
Connecting these two structures solves the terrible problem of students walking outside to and from these buildings.
Eliminates the “island” feel teachers and classes currently have by being separated by outdoor space.
Moving science classes near the math classrooms presents new opportunities for collaboration as the two subjects overlap in multiple ways.
Adding additional classroom space in the new “wing” presents the opportunity to add more STEM opportunities (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
The existing science classrooms can be repurposed to address the increasing special education needs and services.
The proposed location for the additional classrooms will extend from the current math and language arts hallway and connect to the existing Ag/Business building.
